1. Your funnel is not good enough.

It can be tricky to figure out the realm of Instagram ads. Instagram is a very profitable space in social media right now, but if you don’t have any experience with it, you might be wasting your time and money. If you’ve tried your hand at Instagram ads and it hasn’t panned out, we can think of a few reasons why. At Evestar, we have years of experience running successful ads on Instagram, so we have seen what can go wrong firsthand and learned from it. Read on to discover our 6 insider tips about how to be more effective with your Instagram ad strategy and ultimately how to grow your eCommerce business.

Another issue that can affect your ads is the budget allocation. If you’re spending too much money on retargeting and not enough on prospecting, you will get very quick ad fatigue and you will not be able to grow long-term. Widening your net is necessary to grow. Even though you know that retargeting certain customers has a huge potential, after a certain point, you run out of new Instagram users in that audience. Finding new target audiences is one of the keys to growing your business with Instagram ads.

Bullseye is a target of business. Dart is an opportunity and Dartboard is the target and goal. So both of that represent a challenge in business marketing as concept.

2. You are not optimizing for the right objective.

Getting the right objective is huge in succeeding with your Instagram ads. In eCommerce, our campaign’s objective will be ONLY Conversions and ONLY Purchases. Wasting time on other objectives will only waste your money—we know what works and what doesn’t for eCommerce brands. Trust us to help you optimize your campaign for success.

Many brands believe that they should first “season the Pixel,” and they object to landing page views, add to carts and so on. Facebook Pixel is very smart, it will go after the target audience that it knows will convert. Therefore always go for Purchase, and let Pixel bring in quality data. This data will help you know how to ultimately proceed with your Instagram account campaigns in the future and what people are converting.

3. Not understanding the importance of good creative.

This is 2022—creative is KING. Without eye-catching and dynamic creative, your brand will be lost in the dust. Think about it. What ads do you find yourself spending more time looking at: ones that make you think or ones that don’t? Since the iOS 14 announcement last year, the importance of good creative is as high as it has ever been. Copy and design work together to bring you success with your Instagram ads.

Take your Instagram advertising with creative that people can’t help but admire. Evestar knows good creative from bad creative, and our tried and true processes come from years of testing. One huge benefit of good creative is that it helps you get cheaper traffic to your website. The higher the CTR and the lower the CPC and CPM, the better. The bottom line? Get better copy.

4. Not testing enough.

Many marketers don’t understand the importance of testing. You can have what you think is a foolproof strategy, but without testing, you could be wasting your time. There are plenty of things you can test, starting from: audiences, creative types (carousels, GIF, still images, videos, collections and so on). If you don’t know what works best, then you will not be able to scale. It could be as simple as testing a longer versus shorter version of a headline, or emojis versus no emojis. These small tests could make a huge difference in your bottom line. At least 20-25% of the budget should always go to testing. This will ensure that you’re running the right ads, every time. Always prepare your next round of testing until you find what works best for you.

5. Not using 3rd party tools to track your attributions.

This is not a joke. Since the infamous iOS 14 update allowing users to opt out of data sharing, tracking just hasn’t been that accurate. It was a real blow to marketers everywhere, but there are some stellar 3rd party apps to help you track your attributions. Make sure you use different tools to help you get the full picture of where your brand’s purchases are really coming from. You’ll be surprised how that can change your campaign effectiveness.

6. Not trusting Instagram’s algorithm and process.

As an agency that spends millions of ad spend every month, we have learned to understand how the Instagram algorithm works. Don’t think you know it all. Understand that the algorithm is smarter and smarter, and it doesn’t need you marketers to get in its way. What do we mean by that? Let your ads go for a broad audience. Don’t try to micromanage every single step. There’s no need for complex setups—the simpler you go the better.
